The Brockham Big Bike Ride

In Aid of the NSPCC to put a full stop to child cruelty.

Took place Sunday 1st JULY 2007

40 hardy Brockhamites braved the wind, and the rain and had a great time and raised £500.

You can see the slideshow below, or click here for a full size slideshow

Two lovely ladies, Sheila and Andrea, from Dorking Nspcc were invaluable with their gazebo erecting skills in the wind and rain.

The wet, windy and weary team of 5, were first off sharply at 9 30, on the 15 miles uphill to Coldharbour and back; having enjoyed a very muddy off road option on Leith Hill including a very welcome cuppa at the Tower Cafe; lead by Ruth Wood, scout leader,; then lunch at The Royal Oak.

Special thanks to the massive turnout of 20 Brockham Tuesday Boys and Girls, 9 big ones and 11 little ones including the youngest riders, just 3 years old, Mathew Richards and Felix Vaughan, a veteran from last year, and Milo the dog for completing 6 miles to Gadbrook and a stop The Dolphin at Betchworth. A big thanks to all the kids who cycled throughout the day to help less fortunate kids in Surrey.

A special thanks to Andy Lambert and 15 yr old son Dominic for marking out the routes in the rain and then completing the 30 miles hill challenge; Leith Hill, Ranmore and Box Hill as well as a 5 mile off road along with Darrell Motee, 16 years, with the biggest sponsorship of £156 80p. wow! what a great achievement on his first ever bike ride!

On return he was cool as a cucumber and wanting more; no on else was up for it.

Thanks to everyone who helped us rescue the gazebo when the wind blew it across the green several times.

We have 102 super photos which will be on the Brockham web site soon; taken by our events photoghrapher Tina Edwards. tinabear@btopenworld.com.

A big Brockham thanks to everyone who helped, sponsored, supported us and participated, of course including The Parish News.

Please come and join us next year for another great village day come rain or shine; unaduffy@tiscali.co.uk. We welcome suggestions for off road routes around Brockham. Has anyone got a hay field where we could cut a maze?
