Once again, we have an excellent speaker. This year it is local resident Professor Richard Selley, whose talk is entitled The Birth, Life and Death of the River Mole. He will tell us how the river began and how it will disappear, assuring us that the disappearance will not happen in our lifetimes. He will also explain the origins of the famous swallow holes where the Mole crosses the chalk and vanishes underground, and much more. For example, he promises to tell of “the vanishing tree and the plucked duck”. The latter sounds most curious so we are in for a fascinating afternoon. Do come along. The talk will be followed by a traditional afternoon tea.
Tickets cost £8 and must be purchased in advance. They are available from Les Cann on 844765 and Ann Clinch on 842866. The last date for booking is Wednesday 14th August.
