Strood Green Floods
As rain continues to fall residents of Strood Green are
battening down the hatches. Yesterday (Saturday 28th November) saw
one side of Tynedale Road (by the shop) under water.
Motorists who thought they could drive through the floods found
themselves stuck and in need of a push from some willing children.
The RAC were also called out to rescue one vehicle.

Today the grass island and both sections of the road are flooded
and have been closed. Many residents have sandbags at their
properties to stop the water flow. The fire brigade is
attending a house in Middle Street whilst another has a flooded
garage.
The only access to the rest of Strood Green is via Tweed
Lane.

Some of the locals were lifting drain covers in the road in
an effort to unblock the gulleys themselves.
With further heavy rain last night (Sunday 29th November) both
roads remain closed. Over 30 residents helped to lay a line of sand
bags across the entrance to Tynedale Road along to Brockham
Row, and with the aid of a pump and numerous wheelie bins,
they narrowly mamanged to avoidmore serious
flooding. Following a meeting with a local resident and Sir
Paul Beresford MP, Surrey County Council finally arranged for the
drain to be unblocked.
