Temporary Governing Body Confirm New School Name
The folowing has been
released by the TGB
BROCKHAM SCHOOL
Dear Parents,
North Downs Primary School
Following recent meetings and articles in the press, the
Temporary Governing Body (TGB) wish to confirm that the name of the
school created by the amalgamation of Brockham School and The
Acorns Infant School will be North Downs Primary School. In
amalgamation situations like our own, the TGB alone is responsible
for deciding the name of the school and this name was chosen as a
result of a process which involved the two school communities. This
process has led to extensive debate and we thank everyone for their
contributions.
The TGB's responsibility is to create a thriving and sustainable
school, which will offer outstanding education to all children who
attend, whilst retaining the local community focus. The name chosen
reflects the shared geography of all the communities served and
reinforces the creation of a new school which is stronger than the
sum of its parts.
In recognition of the strong individual village links of all
three sites, the signs outside each school will quite properly
contain the appropriate village name.
The TGB has also agreed the uniform for North Downs Primary
School. Jane Fairbourn, the head designate, will be writing shortly
with a full list of uniform requirements together with details of
where they can be purchased for best value, but we would like to
take this opportunity to announce that the main colour will be
PURPLE.
Now that the name and colour have been determined the TGB are
looking at the logo of the school which, as with the name, needs to
reflect what we are trying to achieve with the new school going
forward whilst taking into account the heritage and strengths of
the communities involved.
