Our drummer and bandleader Tony Bevan works hard behind the scenes each month, dilligently booking in guest soloists to come and play at the Oak on the first Wednesday evening in the month. As well as our regulars (who include such great players as Terry Ede, Karl Charity, David Brown and Sarah Bolter), for June and July Tony has found two new soloists : Mark Aston who played trombone and saxes for us this June, and Lester Brown which will be next month’s guest on trumpet and flugelhorn.

Charles Church has submitted an application to build 30 homes on the land at Tanners Meadow.
This has been debated at Brockham Parish council level and rejected. The next step is presentation to Mole Valley District Council at the July planning meeting. Residents have only until Monday 18th June to make their feelings known (whether for or against).

Sarah Bolter (www.sarahbolter.co.uk) ilike many jazz musicians leads many-faceted and busy life. As well as teaching in schools, Sarah can be found in a swing band performing at tea dances, booked for solo gigs at formal functions, playing big band jazz, at jam sessions in London, and luckily for us, as one of our regular guests at the Royal Oak with the Tony Bevan quartet.

The fifth Brockham Open Gardens took place on 24 June and there was a selection of 11 gardens open around the village.
The event was well supported with over 400 people travelling from all over Surrey to view the amazing gardens on display. A record breaking figure of nearly £5,000 was raised towards vital work to the fabric of the Church building.

Westerly departure changes at Gatwick are now imminent!
Gatwick Airport are holding a consultation meeting on Thursday 5 May from 6-9pm at the Burford Bridge Hotel.
However, the Plane Wrong committee are asking residents to continue to campaign to ensure that changes are made as soon as possible.

Residents and road users will be pleased to hear that Surrey County Council have plans to resurface the section of road from Kiln Lane to Wellhouse Lane. The road has had many temporary repairs over the last few months but still the potholes reappear and motorist weave along the road trying to avoid them.

UK Power Networks has robust emergency plans in place to cope with severe weather and brought in additional staff covering engineer, technical and call centre roles but it has been difficult to enlist help from contractors, other electricity companies across the country who have their own repairs to do, and some of our own staff who are away for Christmas.

There will be a Grand Opening of the Shop at Strood Green on Friday 18th October at 10.00am. The Head of Surrey County Council, David Hodges, will be cutting the ribbon and Cabinet Member for Community Services,Helyn Clack, will also attend.
Tea, coffee and cake will be available with funds raised going to The Surrey Air Ambulance.
