Brockham FoodAid

Food Aid has been set up to help those who have suddenly found themselves in different circumstances and need food either on a short term or on-going basis to help see them through this crisis.

FoodAid can make deliveries to people's homes on a Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, either on one, two or all of these days. The food and delivery is free of charge to those facing hardship, loss of income or a delay in benefits. Requests for food can be made by emailing foodaid@bertbrockham.org.uk or by calling us directly on 01737 402821.

Please provide us with your name, address and phone number, as well as how many adults and how many children are in the household, along with any allergies in the family. All such information will be treated in the strictest confidence.

BERT Food Aid is run by BERT and the volunteers of Brockham Christ Church.

Lockdown Library:  With Over 330 Titles (and Now 29 Puzzles!)

BERT would like to remind you of our recently launched Book Exchange. The 200 titles we started with has rapidly risen to over 330, through the generous donations of residents and a publisher. And we are approaching 10% of those titles being loaned out to Brockham’s bookworms.

Note that coronavirus safety guidelines are strictly observed. All outer covers are being wiped and all books quarantined for at least 72 hours before being made available.

Please contact Andrew and Kim directly at andrew.purser@btinternet.com if you would like a copy of the latest book list and to arrange collection.

At the request of residents, the booklist is now more printer-friendly. We understand that some of you are printing the list to share with neighbours who are not online so that they too can enjoy a read (thank you for doing this). We are currently looking into expanding the Lockdown Library to include games and puzzles.

EXPO 2020

Get Creative Now!

Everyone is invited to be part of the Brockham Community Art Project.

Picture the end of social distancing, when we can all gather on the village green once again. And now picture walking into the Village Hall and being struck by the sight of thousands of A5 art creations from villagers.

Each piece of art would reflect individual inspirations or memories of our time in lockdown, but more importantly, the entire art show would demonstrate the collective imagination and creativity of Brockham!

  • The art can be done in the medium of your choice.
  • For the overall visual affect of the exhibition, all the creations must be the same size.
  • The size must be A5 landscape (wider than tall), 210 mm wide x 145 mm high (the same size as The Parish News on its side).
  • It can be a painting, sketch, cartoon, stained glass, knitting, paper maché, photograph, plasticine, poem, song…well, you get the idea.
  • Drop off your creation any time over the next month to: Doug and Di Ross’s house, 40 Brockham Lane, RH3 7EH (in the wooden box near the front door).
  • Mark the art (on the back or on a separate piece of paper) with your name, address, phone number, and the title of your piece (optional).
  • Please let us know if we can sell your art for charity.
Let’s "make and create" great things out of a tricky time. We think the display will be outstanding!

Brockham Book Club, an Online Reading Club

Do you enjoy reading? Do you love sharing your ideas about things you have read? Maybe you’re in a bit of a ‘reading rut’ and would like some suggestions.

I am a recently retired English teacher and, with BERT, would like to set up the Brockham Book Club, with the aim of connecting people through a love of books and sharing our thoughts online over a cup of tea or coffee or a glass of wine.

Perhaps we could continue in real life when things return to normal!

If you are interested, please email me with your name, your preferred genre or author – even your favourite book – and where you usually get your books (eg library, charity shop, bookstore). It would also help to know your preferred meeting time: mornings over a coffee, or early or late evenings.

Let me know. Contact Jude directly at judithwhetnall@live.co.uk
