Terry Ede is a regular visitor to the Oak, and always brings a complement of wind instruments - clarinet, saxophones and flute - that give variety of mood and tone to an evening. Dipping into his deep reservoir of swing and latin standards, Terry swapped instruments at will, playing tunes from memory to create a varied progression of musical entertainment to an appreciative audience of listeners and diners. Tunes from Gershwin, Basie, Jobim, Ellington and Parker kept the the regular house band of Roger Hind, (pno) David Ward (gtr) Mike Bennett (bass) and band leader Tony Bevan (dr) on their toes, providing the easy latin grooves and driving swing to support solos from Terry and other band members. A special guest appearance from a mystery vocalist at half-time lifted the mid point of the evening, from which point Terry took us securely to the finish, ending on the great “Do Nothing Till You Hear From Me”. Next month’s Jazz At The Oak will take place on the 3rd Jan and will feature the wonderful Sarah Bolter on saxophones, flute and vocals.
