Jazz Night at The Oak

1 March 2017

Variety being the spice of life, those lucky enough to catch the jazz harmonica of Phil Hopkins at the Royal Oak on the first Wednesday of March were amply rewarded with a wide range of music played on a seldom-heard instrument. Phil is a Dorking local with a long list of credentials including work in film, TV and theatre both as a harmonica player and drummer. His musical background was reflected in a set list that included the theme from Alfie, Happy Talk, Oh What A Beautiful Morning and Talk To The Animals. Mainstream jazz fans were kept happy with standards such as Misty, I’ve Got The World on A String and My One and Only Love.

Next month sees the return of saxophone and flute specialist David Brown on the first Wednesday in April.
