The regular jazz evening at the Oak saw the return of the ever-popular Karl Charity (http://www.karlcharity.co.uk) who warmed the winter night's audience with a mix of soulful vocals, mellow flugelhorn and blow-your-socks-off trumpet playing. Swinging standards, latin bossa novas and a touch of Miles Davis provided a range of jazz moods, with the house band dipping in and out to ensure that the music was kept fresh, bright and never overbearing. In the second half of the evening Karl was joined by guest Terry Ede on sax offering the opportunity for some competition and collaboration between the tenor and trumpet, held together with Karl’s eloquent vocal delivery. Next month on March 2nd we welcome back Bookham-based instrumentalist and teacher Sam Walker (http://www.samwalker.uk.com) - be prepared for a masterclass in the jazz saxophone.
