The Dorking Golden Ticket event is based on a very simple model. All participating shops are invited to choose a minimum spend and a prize for the day. For example, let's say that you go into Fullers in South Street and their minimum spend is £20. If you buy something for £21 you will be offered a raffle ticket in exchange for your contact details. At 5pm on the day all participating shops will draw their one golden ticket and a winner will be chosen.
Transition Dorking will publish the winners on this website and the Dorking Advertiser will also carry the information.
The main aim of this event is quite simple: to invite people to see that by doing their Christmas shopping in Dorking they are investing in the future of their community. It is quite possible that with transport and parking costs people could actually save money by shopping locally!
Although Transition does not promote consumerism as such we are increasingly aware of the fragility of many of our local independent businesses; this seems to be one small gesture by way of support.
