Water main replacement

24 February 2020

Brockham Parish Council understands that SES are talking to local businesses and have provided reassurances that access will be maintained for deliveries. However, there will be significant disruption and all residents and visitors will need to leave extra time to travel in and out of the village while this essential work is carried out.

Please see below for Compass Bus information for Service 32, including the timetable for the free shuttle bus. Above is a map showing the area where parking will be suspended, to allow for the shuttle bus to loop around Wheelers Lane. It is our understanding that the bus will loop in a clockwise direction, as per the blue arrows.

Brockham Parish Council has spoken to SES on a number of occasions to seek clarification on various issues, as they have arisen. They have said that signage will be put in place to mark out the parking suspension in Wheelers Lane, and to show the location of temporary bus stops. We certainly hope that this will be the case.

Additionally, Brockham Parish Council has worked with North Downs Primary School to put in place some measures to minimise disruption for residents and also for school families. These measures were detailed in an email to all school parents prior to the half-term break. They include suggested parking areas for families to park and stride to school, if they live too far away to walk, as well as an extension to morning drop-off times. Thank you to Mrs Douglass, Headteacher of NDPS, for working with the Parish Council on this.

The Parish Council is also working with the Recreation Club Committee to maximise the effectiveness of the Rec Car Park during the SES works. Measures such as temporary signs encouraging visitors to park there and also temporary painted lines to maximise the number of parking spaces are being actioned. This will help at school drop-off and pick-up times, as well as providing parking for users of the amenities in the centre of the village.

SES anticipate the full closure lasting approximately 3 weeks, at which point they will reinstate temporary traffic lights.

Service 32 - Important Information for Passengers

Middle Street (between the junction with the Bridge and Brockham Green) will be closed for water main works from Monday 24th February 2020 and re-opening on Saturday 14th March 2020.

During these works service 32 running between Guildford, Dorking, Reigate and Redhill will not be able to serve Brockham Green/Village and Strood Green. The main service 32 will only serve the top half of Brockham Lane (north of the bridge) and the Kiln Lane bus stops (a temporary bus stop will be sited at the Kiln Lane/Brockham Lane junction for travel towards Dorking). On Sundays the regular Stagecoach service 32 will operate the same route as the shuttle service (see above). Bus stops between Dorking Deepdene Roundabout and Kiln Lane/Brockham Lane will not be served on Sundays.

During these works SES Water is funding a FREE SHUTTLE BUS on Monday to Saturday to the timetable above. The Compass Bus shuttle will run direct between Dorking Town Centre, Dorking Station and Strood Green/Brockham Village. It will run on a clockwise loop from Tynedale Road via Middle Street, Wheelers Lane and Wellhouse Lane. A temporary bus stop will be placed on Middle Street just before the junction with Wheelers Lane.
