Volunteer Opportunities - Olympics 2012
In collaboration with Surrey County Council, we are
looking for volunteers to join the 'Surrey Ambassadors' team over
the Olympic period. Ambassadors are being appointed to
help to give visiting spectators a really good experience of
Surrey, by 'meeting and greeting' people, guiding them
to events and local places of interest, answering questions and
generally making people feel welcome.
We need volunteers who have specific local knowledge in
locations along the route of the cycling events and the
Torch Relay. More details will be available later, but
the key locations are likely to be Dorking, Egham, Esher,
Godalming, Godstone, Guildford, Leatherhead, Redhill,
Reigate, Shere, Weybridge and Woking.
To take on this important role you must be an excellent
communicator, enthusiastic, supportive and reliable. As
the friendly face of Surrey, you need to be approachable,
open minded and patient, as well as physically fit and
confident. You will need a good knowledge of your local area
so that you can talk knowledgably about places of
interest and landmarks. If you are fluent in a second
language that would be very useful, but not essential.
Ambassadors are expected to conduct themselves with
dignity and good behaviour at all times, to be able to
operate independently (although support will be available)
and use their initiative to respond to the needs of the
visitors and spectators.
Volunteers will need to be available on all of the
following dates: 20, 28, 29 July and 1 August. A uniform will
be provided and must be worn, and there will be a
day's training in the weeks leading up to the Olympics.
At the moment we are just looking for expressions of
interest. Once you have registered interest you will receive
an application form and further information. Applications
will be 'sifted', and applicants who meet all the criteria
will be invited for a short interview.

requirements, please see below:
