Brockham Parish Council
The Brockham Parish Council plays a vital part in representing the interests of the community it serves and improving the quality of life and the local environment. It acts as an advisory agency for planning matters, road safety and other functions of local government. Our areas of focus and who we are are listed below.
We are a corporate body, an elected tier of local government, that has been granted powers by Parliament including the important authority to raise money through taxation, called the precept. We are not political and are the closest official body to the community, working to pull all groups and organisations together in the village.
Brockham Parish Council comprises nine elected Councillors all of whom are residents in the village. All are voluntary roles, of which one is voted in as Chairman. Our Chairman is Karen Gargani. The Parish Council employs a part time clerk who is a critical link between council and local authorities, our supplies, our councillors and our residents.
Many residents help by being part of our working groups to enhance village life. We rely on feedback and input from our community to enable us to best present everyone, to protect our rural status and support each other.

What We Do
The Parish Council deals with a variety of matters affecting day to day life in Brockham, from reviewing current planning applications to organising essential maintenance work and planning for the future.

The list is growing: Perhaps much of what we do is unknown, and as part of the local authority closest to you in the local community, we will do our best to explain:
- Provision of a new footpath - Bridle Way 52 - between the Grumpy Mole Pub and the Brockham Bowls club
- Middle Street hedges were cut back all along Middle Street
- Kiln Lane Big Field/Rugby Club hedges trimmed back on both sides.
- Brockham Lane ditches (along Big Field) cut back and cleared.
- Strood Green Elizabeth Bailey Field grass and ditches cut back.
- Nutwood corner and Tyndale Alley cleared
- Rotten gates removed and replaced with locked drop post at Elizabeth Bailey Playing Field at Strood Green
- New defibrillator installed for the Strood Green Phone Box (owned by the Parish Council)
- Project managed work on new ditch and footpath at Wheelers Lane/Blind Lane
- Funding for North Downs Primary School portaloos
- New traffic signs/replacement signs around the village
- Wheelers Lane and Middle Street Allotment brambles cleared and allotments prepared to make way for the many people on our waiting list.
- Cycle Racks purchased and installed to hold 16 bikes (8 at the rec, 4 at the shop, 4 at the village hall)
- Purchased a metal bin hoop (with lid) for the shelter at the other side of the recreation ground
- New wood surround at the children’s play area at Strood Green, Elizabeth Bailey
- Paid for a new VAS (vehicle activated sign) for Strood Green installed in June 2021.
- Funded new cycle racks for North Downs Primary School
- Purchased new Village Entry Gates at Brockham Lane and Strood Green
- Purchased an Outdoor Gym at the Recreation Ground for the Brockham community
- Lead new environmental initiatives to help our village and our planet through our Environment Working Group
- Placed and planted nine trugs around the village to enhance our image, encourage slower speeds and help our pollinators
- Paid for flowers to be planted at Strood Green Shop
- Bought a water bottle for every child at North Downs School to support a plastic free community
- Eco working group and local volunteers helped to clear the chalk grassland at the Brockham Lime Kilns Quarry
- Worked with SCC to plant 12 trees along Brockham Lane - provides a wildlife corridor, pollination and fruit for the community
- Hired a contractor to replace fencing around the Village Pond
- Sponsored and led the Coronation Activities
- Replacement wooden surround at the playground in the Elizabeth Bailey Field
